I had high expectations for this based on the book industry/libray world extreme hype.

And, it managed to live up to a great deal of them.

The illustrations are fantastic. It contains some of the most moving panel sequences I've ever encountered that represent the internal emotions caused by living in such a broken and painful home.

The stories he recounts from his childhood invoked frustration and a sense of injustice. These may have been hightened due to my new world of fatherhood, but I envision many readers wrestling with similar feelings.

I can't imagine the counseling and processing that must have gone into recovering your life from such a cold, unloving upbringing. Thankfully, the author has undergone this journey (and most likely continues) and shares it in such a powerful manner.
