This is what I call a cluster book. The attempt at a narrative is weak and should have been entirely abandoned as the same despondent thread of the power of uranium could have been applied to gold and spices in previous eras. The scientific information was weak at best and no area of the uranium economy was explored in any depth. The anecdotes about languishing uranium tillings and midnight rendezvous was neat but the scant paragraphs on them is the equivalent of passing the vermouth cap over the whiskey and calling it a manhattan.

I find the history of nuclear science extremely compelling and I found this a page turner only in the sense that I had time to kill and nothing better to read.
