** spoiler alert ** Character wise, this is one of Brennan's strongest books with a tightly knit, established cast, and a dynamic heroine who had a lot of strength. However, I think she might be getting too scary for me. She's one of the best suspense writers out there, so if you enjoy super-scary serial killers, she needs to be on your must read list. The romance part of her books has been fading away for the past several books, but it is back here, although I think I would still classify this as more suspense/thriller. Also, I prefer her other stories like See No Evil where she sticks to one point of view per scene. She's an absolute master of getting into deep point of view, and it can be jarring when she shifts abruptly.

I was also so sad that she killed off Jim Gage. His death didn't really seem to have a purpose, and it killed off one of my favorite recurring characters.
