** spoiler alert ** Hooray! Maggie finally stands up for herself--to assorted parties who desperately deserve a dressing down over the course of the last five books.

The following exchange between Maggie and her never-quite-boyfriend, the ever-judgmental and small-minded police officer Tom, says it all:

Tom: "Want to talk about what happened earlier today?"
Maggie: "I don't know. Care to apologize?"
Tom: "What? Apologize? For doing my job?"
Maggie: "Well, I could say it's for being an asshole, but I don't think that would be kindly accepted either" (Where There's a Witch, p. 197.

And there was much rejoicing in Stony Mill, Indiana--and at my house, too!
