** spoiler alert ** Emily and I both rated this one a solid "meh".

What the heck!!! A mouse-boy is born to humans, the family decides to keep the cat AND build him a bow and arrow. There's a nautical adventure, complete with child-unfriendly sailing terms. Stuart almost dies on a garbage barge and eventually runs away from home. Nothing is wrapped up at the end, leading to the lively discussion of "What do you think happens?" "He finds Margalo and goes home." Well, what did you expect? She's six.

I'm not saying it's a bad book, just an odd book. Give me Roald Dahl over E.B. White any day. Now . . . on to some Beverly Cleary!
