really liked it
bookshelves: great-reads

I have mixed feelings about this book. Overall I really liked it, but it echoes the plot lines of some familiar favorites. I felt like this book was a mixture of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. I never really felt a strong connection with the main character because we don't learn much about him until the end of the book. I also had a hard time keeping his fellow adventurers straight since they're introduced in such rapid succession and the author doesn't take the time to really introduce each one. The title is also a little misleading because the recovery of Slathbog's Gold is a very small part of the book. That said I did think that it was a fun read, full of adventure and suspense and I liked the surprise ending.

I have to disagree with one thing. I felt like I knew all of the characters by the end!
