A disturbing story. As the situation in the story became progressively worse I kept thinking that this can't get any more awful but of course it did. This is not a happy story but more of a parable that references some of the events of the 20th century. Some of the scenes were very graphic (but tastefully done if that's really possible) so I skimmed those scenes. Overall, a very powerful book that shows the depths of destruction that are possible when humans are left to rule the world on their own. When I read the last lines of the book I exhaled and realized that we really do the Holy Spirit to work in our souls, communities, and countries. Written in a unique style, very much like Cormac McCarthy, where normal punctuation is not used, the book was a page-turner for me.
