While Hard Times may not be typical of Dickens's writings, I still find it to be extremely compelling. It is an exploration of how industrialism affects the lower and middle classes; how fact without fancy can have a detrimental effect on children; and how the law works for the rich and against the poor. It is a masterfully written, albiet strange book.
