The illustrated hard cover edition of this book was given to me in 2005 and I finally read it this past weekend! Thanks to the illustrations, this was an easy read. Given my recent interest in art, it was particularly fun. I now understand why this book was so popular and also so controversial. The writing to me was rather commercial - designed to be a non-stop thriller with the occasional flash-back to explain characters motivations without really delving into too much of them personally. Some of this was quite predictable in fact. Still - very fun and it certainly gave me a new way to look at religious artwork and designs :->
