I'm often wary of projects that mix art and activism - quite a few I've experienced seem to emphasize either the art or the activism at the expense of the other - but for some time I've enjoyed following Amy Franceschini's projects with themes of agriculture, gardening and open space. This publication documents the artist's project to revive interest in the World War II Victory Garden programs, resulting in modern "victory gardens" installed in San Francisco. It includes a nice selection of photos and historical images, and the essay by Mike Davis provides context for the Victory Garden movement amongst WWII ecological activities.
