Krakauer is first and foremost a reporter. And a fine one. Brutal, raw, vivid story of an adventure that from the gate seemed a disaster waiting to happen. And after learning of his first-hand experience with oxygen deprivation, I fail to understand why anyone climbs. Yet, like they can't stop climbing, I couldn't stop reading. It's evident throughout the book that it was a hard tale for him to tell. An agonizing journey of epic emotional upheaval. Better than 'Into the Wild' even.
