This book was good. There it is, with out adjectives. Just plain old good. With seemingly every newspaper, magazine and Joe Schmoe reviewer rushing to proclaim the brilliance of every book these days we don't ever see dust jacket quotes that say "this booked is good".
So, such a review might came across as damning.
Damning is certainly not the intent.
Soon I will be invincible took me a long time I read. It isn't a dense or complex book and at 287 pages it isn't a lengthy book. It took me a long time to read because it wasn't a book that demanded my attention. It didn't call out to me when I was trying to sleep. It didn't make me want to squirrel away somewhere in quiet solitude so that I could turn pages uninterrupted.
However, I did finish the book. It was good enough to make me want to finish, to make me come back to it even with a nightstand piled high with other books.
Grossman has given us a well constructed send up of the world of comic books. The story ...more
