Would recommend: Yes

I thought Gilead, although slow, was really comforting. It's probably too mellow for most, but Marilynne Robinson's immersion into the pace and language of Iowa was right on to me. The ending has a much higher velocity than the rest of the book (um, still not crazy fast, but there's more acceleration), and I thought the conclusion was satisfying. It's just a very steady, quiet book, and I liked that.
