I discovered this title via NPR's summer reading recommendations. I read the online extract and knew this would be my kind of book. I was not disappointed. The format is interesting in that the premise finds the main character (Anax) in a dissertation defense type setting. There are 4 question and answer sessions that will determine if she will be accepted to the illustrious academy of scholars. Through this examination process the reader learns of the history of Anax's near-future society through the philosophical discussion with the board of examiners: climate change, dust storms, fear, fundamentalism, the rise of the android, man v. machine, etc. A well-told tale that comes to a gripping climax that I didn't see coming until it was too late. (I read this book on my Kindle.)
