This is a very interresting, yet believable version of the "Frog Prince" tale. Set in Europe during WWI a young noblewomen is left alone with her servants to manage her family's estate. Her mother was killed in a bombing raid and her father is off tending to his business in a faraway town. A young american soldier is caught in the cross-fires of trench-warfair and seeks refuge from the mustard gas in the young girl's well where they happen to meet when she angerly throws a tresured heirloom down the well, knocking the poor young man in the head. This is nobody's idea of "love and circumstance," but when the germans invade the estate and take the young couple hostage, an interresting love affair and friendship unfolds. Cute story and a quick read. :0)
