The second book in a trilogy can sometime feel a bit like a filler bridge that is just getting you to the final book, this is NOT the case for the Ask and the Answer!

Ness' characterizations become more complex as Todd and Viola face difficult decisions. The morality of choices made in times of war are deftly handled. The Mayor/President continues to fascinate, but Mistress Coyle a new character is also wonderful. Her motives are not always clear to Viola or the reader. The treatment of Davy also impressed me.

Now, it was not just the characters that kept me engaged, but also lots and lots of action and twists in the plot. Very well paced.

My only complaint is that I must wait for Book 3!!!
