really liked it

Lahiri displays again her ability to take "ordinary" life situations and reveal character traits and depth that run through all of us. This is a series of "connected yet independent" short stories. She again uses the Bengali Indian culture and here features the struggles, dreams, and "Americanization" of the women, although often the man seems to have the prominent role. Her prose laps the reader's senses, indulging him/her in the memories and dreams that these invoke and that we all share. A great read!
