This book reminds me of a third movie in a series that should never have had sequels. It felt like Scott Westerfeld got himself in too deep in terms of complexity of plot and trying to "out do" the previous novels, resulting in wild unexplained/unflowing plot changes, unconvincing revelations, and lack of emotional depth.

That pretty much sums up how I felt about it. There were, of course, some interesting ideas presented, and plot developments that made sense. The last little part (paragraph or so) is just completely crazy and preachy. If this book hadn't been the conclusion to finding out what happened to these characters and to the world that Westerfeld created, I think I probably would have given it one star, but its one of those cases where since you like the first two, you need to read this one, even if it does disappoint.
