I couldn't figure what either female character saw in Will Truesdale. But this book had some very interesting history of the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong during WWII. We find out after the fact what happened to and what ends people went to in order to survive both inside and outside of prison camps. Hard to know how you would react in such circumstances.

The Piano Teacher of the title walks away from British society and finds herself a flat in Wanchai. Says a lot about British middle class life to see the lengths she goes to to escape that world!
