it was amazing
bookshelves: 2007, religion, nonfiction

I'd give it a 5 if it weren't for the book's last pages concerning Eastern meditation and the breakdown of the duality in self-consciousness, which seemed flabby and tacked on. Harris didn't make the link between why faith is bad because it doesn't lead to happiness and why meditation is good because it leads to happines quite explicit and obvious enough. The rest of his book pretty clearly laid out the connections between disparate subjects, but these chapters could have been fleshed out a LOT more. Or maybe Harris just didn't have an answer about what to replace faith with. Very thought-provoking, interesting book in which I underlined a lot of stuff -- just like college! Made me think, which is a rare thing with the books I choose to read, mostly because I am a lazy reader and thinker. Hmmm....
