This book was up and down for me. I found myself fascinated at certain points and utterly confused/kind of bored at others. This is probably more of a testament to my failings than to Pynchon's. My favorite part was definitely the play within the novella and I suspect that I would enjoy that part even more if I reread the book. It really sets up the rest of the action and I give Pynchon a lot of credit for using it as a great storytelling device. At any rate, this is probably a good place to start if you are at all interested in Pynchon.
