Innocuous titles and horribly sappy covers aside, Lawrence writes with such ferocity and violence that even idyllic scenes of two budding lovers sitting in a boat together feel like there is a whirling eddy just around the corner from them at all times. This is the first of Lawrence's that I've read but I was quite impressed with the sheer power of his prose and his remarkably unique turns of phrase. Quite good. I hope to read more of him soon.
