Read in May, 2009

Would someone please explain to me how Alexander McCall Smith, a white Scottish man gets so well into the heads of Precious Ramotswe and the other characters of Botswana in these books, and makes me believe in them?

And yet I find his other series flat and annoying. Go figure....
