really liked it

Even though this little novel is Victorian, I was surprised by how entertaining and enjoyable the writing was. It's a delightful cast of characters and anecdotes and it's very funny--I especially loved the narrative voice of Mary and the character of Matty Jenkyns. However, I am biased a bit in favor of the BBC movie that came out last year and because the movie incorporated three of Gaskell's novels, it has more to offer. Still, the book is worth reading and I am definetly interested in reading some more of Elizabeth Gaskell's novels.
