I adored the first book and wanted to love this one just as much, but was ultimately letdown. Emma-Jean and Colleen are still great characters and are terrific counterparts to each other -- one's cerebral, the other's all heart, respectively. I especially liked Colleen's arc, where having someone like you, even if you don't know the identity of your admirer, gives you a boost in confidence.

But in the end, it just never came together. It started off well and had a lot of potential in having Emma-Jean becoming involved in the exploration of the seemingly nonsensical ways of love. Nothing, however, really congealed or was that explosive. Mixing middle-schoolers' hormones and Emma-Jean's meddling should result in some kind of madcappery, right? Not this time. Bummer.
