This book had me hooked from the very beginning.

A young woman is taken from her prison cell to what she believes is her execution. Instead she is taken to a man who offers her a choice; become the food taster or go on down to the stocks. She choses life as the food taster where she makes new friends and new enemies and discovers that she has a gift that could kill her faster than any poison if anyone finds out.

I could not stop reading this book I had to find out how the protagonist, Yelena, had ended up on death row and how she was going to avoid being mudered by a myriad of people.
