Frederick is young, naive and does a lot of growing up before he leaves the country after getting mixed up with the Tupamaros, an urban guerilla movement, and having to flee for his life.

This however is only have the story. All of that takes place in the seventies. In between we learn how Ramon becomes a tango teacher in York and what happens when his brother's daughter vanishes mysteriously.

Baker is best known as a crime novelist and although this is not a crime novel it does feel as if it was written by one. A highly readable book with an unexpected twist at the end.
