A historical novel set in early Plymouth: Meg Dillon thinks she is in love with William Hall, the apothecary's son, but her father's finances inspire the family to sail for the New World with Myles Standish. Once there, life is hard but Meg's optimism helps her make a wide range of friends from Squanto, whom Malvern calls the true hero of Plymouth, to quiet Matt Crane.
