I definitely liked the movie version better. In the book, Nicholas Garrigan seemed like he was less "stuck" in Uganda and more willing to help out Amin. Don't get me wrong, I did get the sense he was being forced to do things against his will, but it seemed like he was more of an observer than in the movie. The movie changed around the story a little bit, but it gave you more of a sense of desperation and pity for the main character and the superb acting of Forest Whitaker really gave Amin life.
