I was surprised to learn my 15 year old read this in elementary school--the subject seems a little advanced because it was a little violent with lots of prejudice mixed in. This is the story of a Chinese man and his son that come to the United States in the early 1900's to make money and hopefully earn enough to bring the boy's Mom over. There are a few mean and bad people--both Chinese and Americans. The story is about rising above struggles and doing your best until you succeed.
