This quiet and unassuming book is one of my favorites of all time. Set at the turn of the 20th century, this coming-of-age story not only takes us on Francie's journey into adulthood, but also delivers to us the possiblity of something beautiful being born out of a world of hurt and loss. It's hopeful and moving, and I cry every time I read it.
