I was supposed to read this for a class I took but didn't, so I wanted to fulfill my duty even though it is several years later.

This book is very readable although there is also a lot of doctrine in it. The story of Milarepa's tribulations form a stong narrative. Overall I found myself having a feeling of sympathy and reverence for him. I found the teachings to be something I could relate to and learn from, although I will certainly never be a hermit. It was also interesting as an introduction to Tibetan Buddhism (which is why it was assigned of course). There are a good many explanatory notes at the back and the introduction is also valuable. So if you are interested in using this as a more serious text for study then I believe it will be suitable for that.
