A coming-of-age story about a gay 12 year old. But it's not as deep as it sounds. Totally Joe is written as an 'alpha-biography' class assignment. Joe has to write something about himself for every letter of the alphabet, so each chapter is a letter. A is for Addie, his best friend, etc. It's clear by letter B that although Joe is only 12, he's very sure he's gay. It was a good book on the topic, although Joe is sooooooo stereotypical. But I guess one boy can never be expected to represent all the gays in the world. (Totally Joe is about the same group of friends as The Misfits.)
