A great book tracing the history and origins of marriage and its function in society. Recommended for people who enjoy history and sociology, or even just for people who want to know a little bit more about the institution of marriage and its evolution.

I'll admit that I put this aside for a bit but I do find it very accessible and will come back to finish up before too long.

I'm almost done with this (long flights). The thesis is a bit more complex than I stated originally-Coontz traces the evolution of marriage and attempts to demonstrate how the importance of love in marriage destabilised the institution. No kidding, it's what my Indian mom and dad have been saying for years. Just kidding. It's a wonderfully written book and I highly recommend it.
