Having watched the HBO series on tv, twice, I grabbed this one off the library shelf as soon as I spotted it. David McCullough's biography of John Adams is a monster read. A Pulitzer winner from 2001. It's 650 pages had me hooked, from the first to the last page.
The author has a gold mine of the richest of epic seams in American history, following Adams's life and political career, with the vast document and letter archive from the pen of the man himself. The life and monumental times of John Adams and his family, produce a mighty tome with incredible detail, not just historical, but a human story of love, faith, family, patriotism, victory and defeat through the ups and downs of a life spanning ninety years.
I discovered the book differed from the HBO film in the treatment of George III. The book is correct, the film disparaging of Farmer George.
