If you can identify JFK, LBJ, and Gen. Westmoreland without looking them up, or if you're a serious poli/sci major, then read this book. Karnow covered the Vietnam War from the 1950's on but his book starts in 200 B.C. This is an interesting, readable tome because Karnow is a journalist, not a politician, that is, he wants to convey information, not conceal it.
Excellent reference book.
