Part confessional, part Murakami-esque journey into the bizarre, Mohr's novel takes a painfully close look a childhood trauma--and it's never been so fun. When one of the main character's best friends is his inner child (in the flesh, so it seems), you know you're in for something different... And as gritty, hopeless and broken as things may seem, this novel offers a beautiful path of redemption. That is, what once was a terrible plague of memories is now a stepping stone for connection to a world you've been afraid to face up to. A remarkable first novel.
