Biography
Jerome, Kate Boehm. Who Was Amelia Earhart?<u/> New York and Canada: Grosset & Dunlap, 2002. ISBN-0-448-42856-3. Ages 7-12. Time Spent 30 min. Pages 106.
To be honest the word biography often elicits from me a spontaneous yawn. Children’s biographies are typically better than adults are but can be dry. This book however is neither yawn worthy nor dry. It is a chapter book that begins with a description of Amelia Earhart, the next chapter talks about her youth and the chapters chronicle her life in simple yet colorful description. What makes this book special is that within each chapter there lies a sub-plot of information. For example, chapter two talks about her youth and how her visit to the 1876 World Fair affected her. The next page is a picture and a few paragraphs about the World Fair. There are pencil drawn pictures on each page, you will also find a drawn map if a location is mentioned. So not only is this book a great reference for Ms. Earhart it also ties in historical events that took place during her lifetime. In the back is a page to page timeline of her life and world events.
