I stayed away from this book since it came out because I was worried the premise would just be a pretext for Palahniuk to embrace his outlandishness gratuitously, but I was pleasantly suprised. He makes the claustrophobic environment of strange waiting environment work very well, and the shifting first person narratives from the 4 main characters intertwine very compellingly. The ending is not a big surprise, but does not harm the rest of the book.
