Brandi this was my first murakami read, and i really wanted to like it. and i really did, particularly during the first two-thirds of the story. i found that, especially during the second segment, i was ramping up my interest and ease along with the progression of page numbers, and then...bleh. fell flat. murakami paused far too long in the story for my taste, taking what i perceived to be an apex of the tale and manipulating the story into a show of his terrific ability to create and maintain parallels. that's all fine and dandy, but i completely did not care anymore. what happened to the storyline he finally hooked me into? i don't know. i didn't even finish the book. i was that far gone.

i don't plan to hold this against him, and i do intend to read 'kafka on the shore,' but i'm not sure his pacing was consistent enough for me to enjoy this particular read.
