Such gorgeous prose. Lyrical waxings about such divergent topics as cricket and the nether reaches of New York City mesmerize. Wistful and disoriented, the rather urbane narrator struggles to get his bearings in this post-9/11 world. Some of the characters and places are beautifully drawn but the story seems to suffer from incipient malaise, a vague inertia that robs it of great consequence.
