Silence Hollingbrook is everything that is good and kind, important for a woman who operates an orphanage with her family. Mickey O'Connor is the pirate king of the slums of London who shows no remorse for the thieving and killing he does. When he kidnaps the daughter he gave to Silence to raise, she has no choice but to take up residence in his den of iniquity. Through dangerous twists and turns, Hoyt brings these two unlikely heroes together in this latest addition to her "Maiden Lane" series set in pre-Regency England. Like her other books, Hoyt provides an unflinching look at the hard day-to-day life during these times and is not afraid to describe the seedier and gritty parts of life in a big city. Although the story is very graphic, at its core it still a story of love and redemption.
