Pretty good. I will read the other two in the hopes that she ends up with Jehu. I have to admit the ghost sighting scenes were a little spookier than I like, but since it ended well I could sleep. I had a hard time understanding why Mary's ghost was so angry, though. Jane had nothing to do with her death. Likewise, I didn't understand how the burial of the Indians soothed the ghost so that she left.

I know her father is in trouble and it makes me a little sad to continue. The ending was clearly written with another book in mind--very vague.

Sarah After reading your comment, I'd say the reason that Mary's ghost was angry was because Jane was trying to be something she was not, something prim and proper. She let this illusion carry her across the continent and ultimately that was what killed Mary. Mary died because Jane made a rash and unwise decision and Mary was forced to follow. I think that the Indians soothing the ghost could show that Jane is learning to accept who she really is and to appreciate the people around her. There are two books after this one... I think you'd like them.
