Very good apocalyptic literature. In Life As We Knew It, we read about massive climactic changes due to an asteroid hitting the moon through the journalistic pen of Miranda, a teenager. One thing after another goes wrong for her and her family.

The book took me a little time to get into. Miranda's not all that interesting of a character, but the situations that she faces are. The descriptions of the environmental changes and the struggles that her family faces are immersive. While I was reading it, it was hard to remember that I wasn't living in a volcanic winter with them.

The book made me profoundly grateful for what I have -- and even more grateful for our year's supply of food. The portrayal of Christianity was less than flattering -- particularly of the pastor. Miranda's family was completely self-absorbed. It would be fun to see the counterpoint: how true Christians would be generous.
