Not the most gripping read, but certainly one of the smartest I've read. Like so many other Swedish writers, no matter which decade they were/are writing in, Sjowall and Wahloo take a dim view of the society they live in and take a special delight in ridiculing the police. Martin Beck is the smart guy in the background who gets it done- no bluster, no shootin', no credit. I look forward to reading more of their books.
