Recommended for: skeptics of why environment is important
Read in July, 2007

This book allows for a genuine appreciation of nature. For anyone who might have thought human civilization is pretty advanced in complexity and interconnectedness and all that, it turns out Nature still wins hands down for this round.

It is also very pragmatic in explaining why we cannot in fact destroy beautiful ecosystems - this is something we are told all the time, but it is important to explain, in detail, WHY because there are billions of people who would otherwise argue, "why not? it's worked so far." I know I'm tempted.

.... EO Wilson for president would be fine for me.
