This is book #4, the final book, in a great YA series! I want to buy the first 3 books. This series takes place in a futuristic world, after it has been annihilated in what was probably a nuclear war. But scientists anticipating the event built an entire underground city, Ember. They estimated when the human race would emerge from the city and left them a clue to something important. However, people emerged from the underground world much later than the scientists had expected. All this happened prior to this book. In this book the people of Ember are living in the above ground city of Sparks and life is hard. It's sort of like living in the 1600s or 1700s since much of the technology has been lost- no electricity, no motor transportation, etc. The people of Sparks can't even read! It's a hard winter and people are starving and freezing. That's when Lina and Doon, teenagers who had left Ember, get the idea to return to the dying city to search for any food or other useful things that had been left behind. Not a good idea!
