Is an interesting history. I couldn't keep with it when Wal-Mart became a big corporate entity as the story often hinged on internal politics. I don't like reading about politics and the only way I can keep with stories that do is by caring about the characters. As these were real people and history it couldn't be written with an omniscient point of view. Which is perfectly reasonable for a history story, but explains why I have a hard time staying interested in history. I most admired how stable and happy the Waltons managed to keep their early family life, especially as Sam was obviously a workaholic. I think one of the keys was that work didn't only follow Sam home, but the family followed Sam to work and it all became a family project.
