** spoiler alert ** 14 year old girl in love with her brother’s best friend, in struggle to understand her brother. Her brother, Link and best friend, James are gay-inclined and much of the book is about facing this (Link is afraid and evasive while James is direct and at peace). Ellen develops a relationship with James after the boys argue. Mature content especially because of the emotional depth it undertakes. At times hard to understand, though written in straightforward, simple style. I had to reread a lot of the dialogue and still didn’t always know what they meant. Did feel like an original undertaking, but the characters were very serious and a bit too reflective to come off as real kids.
