I enjoyed reading the tales of this knight-errant, whose response to a world gone mad is to become mad himself. This unlikely hero dove into the world of chivalry and sword-fighting, not realizing that he was indeed fighting windmills, and he struggled to put right all that had gone wrong in his little world. The central story is one of hope and inspiration even though much of the grim world leaks through the cracks in the character's experience. Cervantes writes the text in such a way that you can't help but become enamored of Don Quixote as he dictates to an absent chronicler how his life story should go ("Do not forget my good horse Rozinante"). Don't worry, Alonso; you and your horse were not forgotten. ;)
